If they're natural there's nothing odd about that. These type of comments cause many easily swayed women to have so many body image issues they waste years of their lives with eating disorders and dieting. Chill out.
Sorry, but I must disagree. They are disproportionately huge in this picture.
In my opinion, it's pictures and photos like this that cause body image issues - things that seem realistic and attainable, because the viewer feels like they share similarities with the person in the picture, but actually aren't naturally possible for most people. I know a few women who have had breast enlargement, or want it, because they've been bombarded with pictures of huge-titted women for most of their lives, and think that they will never be good enough until their tits are as big as their head...
Guys like Jim Lee and Andy Kubert drew Psylocke --- no, scratch that, nearly ALL mainstream comic artists draw their characters --- with ridiculous proportions, but at least they never pretend to be realistic. This is a semi-realistic figure - until we get to the boobs. Look at pictures of some muscular, slim, toned female athletes - women with a waist this small - and tell me if their boobs are even close to this size...?
Are you saying the artist isn't rendering a consistent size ratio with what the comic drawings look like? That would be a completely different topic then the rest of your comment.
Why shouldn't people be whatever size they want, under the condition that their state doesn't present health issues for them? I don't see the need for surgery anyhow. I think there're many ways to become fatter without fakeness.
In regard to athletes, you're giving an unfair comparison. They have to compete with smaller stronger athletes so they have to be as light and powerful as they can be.
That's not what I'm saying. There are many different artists with their unique styles who draw characters with many different proportions. It would be silly to directly compare. My point is that some of the great artists draw/drew their characters with entirely unrealistic proportions, to the point that everyone can see that people aren't supposed to look like that. Because they are so heavily stylized, I can't see how Jim Lee's characters could possibly create body image issues in anyone but the insane.
In this picture, however, her body seems fairly realistic -- except that her breasts are huge. Disproportionately so, especially when compared to real women. That is the type of thing that creates body image issues. "Oh, a nice slim body and big boobs - well I've got the body but my boobs aren't big enough..."
It's not unfair to compare this picture to athletes. With regard to her breasts, you said that "If they're natural there's nothing odd about that." Well my point that there IS something odd. Women with that kind of slim, toned body rarely have breasts that big unless they are fake.
Ok, so Jim's off the hook. Actually now that you mention it her breasts are a weird shape also. I still like the size but realize it does fall outside the norm. One might go as far as to say it "deviated" from it. I think it's wrong to stigmatize larger women.
I understand what you're saying here also. I think wise ladies understand as well. I know I've loved many a flat chested woman in my time. It's sometimes a wise womans' duty to tell the another one "it's too bad she thinks she needed to buy those" in a one on one confidential nonjudgmental way. But especially so when they're around really skinny friends who obsess about their diet but never had a weight problem to begin with.
I concede your point that he's come up with some oddly "deviant" material here. I congratulate him on his deviance. You may be right but I don't know if he's on the right. I wouldn't speculate being he was military and likes the violent video games.
