Pepper meets Animal Square by Artgerm Pepper meets Animal Square by Artgerm
Katchup is a cat charactet I designed together with 11 other animals in my Animal Square project - It is a street fashion label. I thought it can be fun to see Pepper meeting Katchup, which supposed to be really naughty.

You can check out Animal Square here: [link]

Personally, I didn't like the way you draw the Animal Square character. It is too rounded to be even called "Animal Square" (think: how can be a square be rounded).

I prefer your older style of drawing the Animal Square character. It looks cuter and more cartoony.

As for your Pepper Girl character, I still do not understand why you like to constantly draw her all the time. It seems that Pepper is the (only) character you draw, and yet ironically you can easily jack up your pageviews, favourites and comments at your DA site. Speaking of which, this artwork should have been renamed as "Pepper Girl - The Iron-Clad Ego".

Pardon me, but based on my observations on your deviations, Pepper is all but what you have limited to (minus the occasional Kamen Rider, Metal Gear Solid and Full Metal Alchemist fan-art). The only thing original for each deviation is the medium and style used. And that's that.

Yes, you do have very great techniques and nice-looking deviations, but drawing the same thing over and over again can seem tiring. Just my two cents.... hope that you appreciate my interpretation....

First of all. Thanks for your comment. It is indeed an interesting comment.

I am trying to reply you with the assumption that you are an active artist and you understand the general creative process from the artist point of view. More importantly, I assume that you have read my journal entry regarding the concept behind my Pepper Project. If not, you can find it here: [link]

Firstly, it is very interesting for you to single out this particular piece of Scrap work (not even a proper deviation) and commented that you don't like the way i drew the animal sq character and you prefer my "older style". There is no "older style" of animal sq in fact cos there is only one style - the vector art. In this particular scenario, I was trying to make my Anisq character look a little more 3d in order to fit into the rendition of Pepper. It is a kind of one off thing, not even a new art direction I am setting for Animal Square. It is in fact quite obvious to most artists who view this artwork, I am not sure why you think otherwise. Of cos, I do repect your preference of seeing the character in flatter vector format, which looks cuter and more cartoony. (well that's exactly why I created the characters in that manner)

Secondly, regarding your comment about my Pepper Project in specific, I will leave it open until you've read about my journal. However, I feel very sorry for you if u think a DA artist who create art just to jack up the pageviews, favourites & comments. It is in fact an insult to the artists who put in their heart and soul in their works just to improve and to be the best they can be. Pageviews, favourites are the result of the artist's hardwork, not the objective of it. If you are an artist with real passion and right attitude in art, you would not have make such harsh comment, not to mention renaming the artist's work sacastically.

Thirdly, you've commented that "Pepper is all but what you have limited to", based on your observation. Well again, I doubt you actually understand the idea behind my Pepper Project, and the benefit of it. If you strongly feel that "The only thing original for each deviation is the medium and style used. And that's that." is not the right way to create art, do you mean "The real original art should be using the same medium with different subject matter."? Because masters like Claude Monet, Van Gogh & Andy Wahol do so? Well I think the best way for you to find out is to try doing it yourself, find a subject and interprete it in 20 different rendering styles. Then you can come back to me and let my know if it is "limiting" and you gain nothing from it.

I did try to go to your page with an intention to view some great artworks in your gallery, which makes your comment more credible than it sounds. Unfortunately I found nothing but 79 pageviews. (well...I suppose you care about that alot).

Thanks fellow Singaporean.

Wow, this is a SCRAP?! :O.o:

All I can do right now is chuckle mindlessly at this little drawing, while simultaenously quiver with jealousy at your ability to draw female figures. My favorite part of this picture would have to be Pepper's muscles and the detail you put into them. The reason? I'm not very good at doing that stuff! :D
