Well, I am a writer and can certainly relate to that notion.
So, I’ve given it some thought.
When you go to sleep, the right side of your brain takes control, right.
I imagine that the closer you get to sleep - the more tired you get - the weaker the left part of the brain’s hold of you gets. This might allow more access to the imagination and intuitive powers of the right part of the brain.
I have found that you can exercise the particulars of this transition, in order to maintain the reasoning skills required for writing coherently as close to actual sleep as possible in my case, sort of letting you write with the imagination of your dreams for a few hours. I have theorized though, that you could paint or draw in that same state, but since I lack your kind of... “Artist soul”, I’m hoping you might tell me how this fares...
Do not use drugs - I realize that drugs would be an easy way to locate this state, but if you do, i can almost certainly promise you deterioration. Not to mention the self-respect you get from mastering yourself without drugs.
