Deviousness Award

Deviousness Award
`Artgerm has very humble beginnings here on deviantART. He began like you or I, just another deviant in a sea of many, and he quietly introduced his art to us, one work at a time. It was immediately recognizable that he had talent, but had not refined it quite yet. Over the years, he took the communities feedback to heart, and offered up his own back. Along the way he became one of the most recognized artists on the site.

And not by following trends or holding his popularity up as a mirror to others, but by sheer hard work and determination and commitment to those who considered themselves fans of his work and believers in his talent.

His passion and dedication can serve as an example to all of us here. Following your own road may take longer, but as you can see, it is well worth the work.

So congratulations to `Artgerm, recipient of deviousness for May of 2008.

Hi there! I know that you may get this a lot but could you please tell me what I have to do to learn how to draw? I mean, I don't know where to start off with, what should I draw, what type of pencil/pen should I use and stuff like that. I feel preety discouraged to even try because I'm already 17 yo while others at my age are a lot better then me(not sure if I can compare myself to others if I don't even know how to draw but still). But even so it's very important that I learn how to draw so I can achive my goal so could you please help me?

A good place is to draw what you like. Like people, environments, mechanical, cars that kind of thing. Then whether you want to make it a career or not and if you want to do concept art, illustration, animation, the list goes on. Now, when you have all of that figured out, start taking baby steps. For example, if you like drawing girls, maybe start by drawing the head or nose or whatever. But dont tackle doing too many things at once. Think of it like juggling, when you start you cant juggle maybe more than 2 but after time, you can juggle 5 maybe 6 things at once. Regarding materials, it doesnt matter. just go to the store and pick up a pack of pens or pencils for a $1 and draw in a notebook. Age doesnt matter either. But dont forget to draw stuff that you enjoy and have fun doing it. Thats how i look at it at least so take it like a grain of salt :D

Thanks for telling me this but do you know where I can learn to draw for example a head properly or do I just try to copy how I see it in the image or..? Any help would be useful!

A couple of artists i refer to for tuts are Sycra and Cubebrush on Youtube. But a really good thing to do is to look art people's faces and notice little things like where light is picked up, plain changes etc.

Do you have a step by step on how you draw faces, i mean just the sketch stage, or maybe something you would recommend?
